The Embassy of Nigeria in Tripoli repatriated another batch of 107 stranded Nigerians from Libya in addition to the 100 evacuated earlier this month. This batch has seven persons over the planned capacity, calling for an upgrade of transportation means. The sustained rescue operations by the Federal Government of Nigeria is to ensure no Nigerian is left stranded in the country. Mr Kabiru Musa, Chargé D’affaires en titre of Nigeria to Libya disclosed this in statement made available to NAN, the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to Mr. Musa, the 107 evacuees who are mostly victims of human trafficking lured into the dangerous journey in search of a better life, are expected to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at night. Mr Musa added that the Nigerian mission in Libya had made it a priority to ensure no Nigerian was left stranded in Libya or subjected to inhuman treatment.
The evacuation exercise was carried out by NAF aircraft C-130 H of the Nigerian Airforce which arrived same day. In compliance with COVID-19 protocol, only those with negative PCR results were allowed to board the aircraft.
