CGJHB/AD/217/VOL.I | Added on 30 April, 2021

REGISTRATION OF PASSPORT & VISA AGENTS

The recent ban on the activities of passport/visa agents by the Consulate General of Nigeria was sequel to mounting complaints from fellow Nigerians on the negative activities of the agents as regards charging of exorbitant service fees, extortion, and corrupt manipulation of the procedures of the processing of applications at the Mission.

2. Consequently, following pressures from the Agents, the Consul General (CG) called a meeting on 29th April, 2021 to address the aforementioned concerns. Taking into cognizance the impact of the decision, particularly on their families, a grace period of operations of 6 months was offered the Agents during which they are to disengage and seek other means of livelihood.

3. In this regard, it was equally agreed that their operations in the intervening period shall be governed by the following set of rules and regulations:

  • Registration with the Consulate General. Documents required:
    1. Valid Residence Permit of operator(s);
    2. Certification of Registration Issued by Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC);
    3. Proof of physical address of operation, with valid contact telephone number and email address;
    4. A non-refundable bond deposit;
    5. Names, passport data page and schedules of all staff;

  • A signed undertaking to furnish the Consulate General with a breakdown of all service fees charged to applicants, as well as weekly lists stating names of passport applicants served

4. All interested applicants are requested to submit their documents for consideration to the Consulate General no later than 20th May, 2021.
