Nigerian Mission in Afghanistan

Nigeria and Afghanistan enjoy loose diplomatic ties through mutual memberships in several international organizations like the United Nations. However, both countries stronger commonalities like a significant Sunni muslim population, fight against insurgencies, and dealing with the consequences and/or aftermath of Western interventions. Both countries are strategically located in the far east of the Western regions of their respective continents, land-bordering countries with which security pacts are challenging to sustain against rogue elements.

As of August 2026, Nigeria has no diplomatic mission in Afghanistan. Consular affairs are condcted through the Nigeria High Commission.in Islamabad. Economic cooperations, investments and people to people exchange between Abuja and Khabul remain minimal though there are efforts to explore opportunities to boost economic and trade exchanges in sectors like Agricultural, Manufacturing and Mining. According to unofficial Nigerian immigration records, there were less than 20 Afghan passport holders traveling to Nigeria in Q1 2026. Information gathered from expat forum activities show that, besides international NGO staff and family, there are approximately 27 Nigerians in Afghanistan. Most of them are former students in Pakistan while some extended their travel from Iran. However, all unregistered Nigerians in Afghanistan are believed to be temporary tourists, explorers of business opportunities, researchers and content creators rather than permanent residents.
