Accompanied by Senior Counsellor and new Head of Chancery, Mr Olonijolu Olufemi, Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Eniola Ajayi paid a courtesy visit to the International Criminal Court (ICC), in The Hague. She met with the President, Judge Piotr Hofmański, and the Registrar of the Court, Mr Peter Lewis.

The ICC is an intergovernmental organisation and permanent judicial body established by the Rome Statute. It is the first and only permanent international court with jurisdiction to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression. The primary mission of the ICC is to help put an end to impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole.

Coincidentally, Nigeria signed the Rome Statute on 2nd September 2021, exactly 20 years ago, thus becoming the 39th State Party. As a State Party, Nigeria supports the efforts of the ICC in achieving universality of the Court.
