Officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, embarked on an intervention mission to capture biometric data and make passports available to Nigerian citizens living in Cambodia. The intervention exercise, which is in fulfilment of the consular duties of the Embassy, was conducted  from Friday 3rd to Wednesday 8th December 2021. 

Prior to dispatching the intervention team to Cambodia, the Embassy had received a number of requests from Nigerians in Cambodia whose passports had expired. This state of affairs has brought hardship to our citizens, as they were not able to renew their resident permits, student ID cards, work permits and other documents in Cambodia. Upon reciept of the complaints from Nigerians in Cambodia, the Embassy of Nigeria, Bangkok made attempts to go to Cambodia to offer this essential service to our citizens, but the travel restrictions occasioned by the pandemic made it impossible. 

Happily, with the easing of travel restrictions, the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Kingdom of Thailand, with concurrent accredition to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, H. E. Mr. Ovikuroma Orogun Djebah approved the urgent passport intervention mission to Cambodia. During the intervention exercise, no fewer than 300 Nigerians had their biometrics captured preparatory to the production of their passport booklets to enable them carry out their legitimate businesses in Cambodia. The intervention team, which was led by Immigration Attache, Mr. Abubakar Janyau Mohammed, was successfully conducted to the satisfaction of the Ambassador. 

In a letter addressed to Ambassador Djebah, the president of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) in Cambodia, Mr. Koledoye Abayomi, commended the Embassy of Nigeria in Bangkok for the passport intervention exercise. He expressed optimism that, with the exercise now concluded, the challenges faced by Nigerians, who enjoyed the consular service, would be alleviated.
